Greg Hoffman Consulting is giving away 4 months of free affiliate program management to one lucky merchant. I want to create a living case study to show the world what we do on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. I think some merchants are wary of throwing money at a marketing channel and don’t really understand what OPMs can do for their programs. This is going to be a window into my world. This is our chance to prove that older or stagnant programs can be revitalized and contribute significant gains in new customers. Too many programs out there are on auto-pilot!
At least twice a month, I will post a public report here on the Marketing Gorilla blog with all the relevant stats. I promise to post the good, the bad and the ugly. We will also talk about this program openly on the podcasts we sponsor, Affiliate Juice and Affiliate Voices. We won’t be divulging affiliate sites or specific efforts and we won’t be disclosing any proprietary sales information. Hopefully the merchant will contribute to this report with their thoughts on the progress. Here is what we will share in the report:
- EPC
- Conversion
- Percentage of active affiliates with clicks
- Percentage of active affiliates with sales
- Percentage of affiliate recruitment growth
- Percentage of top affiliates recruited from above stat
- Percentage of increase/decrease in sales compared to same month last year
- Number of emails/messages sent to affiliates
- Number of phone calls with affiliates
- Number of emails/messages sent to merchant
- Number of phone calls with merchant
- The type of communications between both
- Adjustments to the program itself, commission changes etc.
- Newsletter content
- Problems with the program, affiliate complaints
- Number of deals/exclusives/vanity codes given out
- Miscellaneous daily duties
Merchants that are interested need to apply by contacting us and giving us their best pitch on why they want free affiliate management. There are rules, however…
1. Programs must be at least 1 year old (launch prior to 2011)
2. Programs must be on ShareASale, Commission Junction or buy.at
3. Program must have datafeed
4. Program must have wiggle room in margins (commission and/or deals)
5. Merchant must have IT support for affiliate program
6. Merchant must be a willing participant in strategy
Is there a cost or a fee? No.
Is there any obligation for the merchant to sign up with us after? No.
What if the merchant doesn’t feel comfortable promoting the success/failure of the program? Don’t volunteer.
What if this becomes an epic failure? Then we will all learn from it.
Can affiliates nominate merchants? No, the request has to come directly from the merchant, but we encourage you to contact any programs you think would benefit.
We have the resources to make an impact on older programs. We have demonstrated it for years now. I’ll name a few of the older programs that are skyrocketing under our management:
Cellars Wine Club – unmanaged for 5 years. Within first year at GHC, 66% growth over previous year
A Gift Personalized – Largest affiliate month ever January 2012
Reuseit – Currently 338% ahead of sales Q1’11
Lobster Anywhere – December 2011 sales 85% higher than December 2010
Direct Gardening – unmanaged for 5 years. Sales have increased 150% over the last 2 years.
