Michael Martin - Android Affiliate Mobile Marketing

My first breakout session on Monday at Affiliate Summit East 2010 was Michael Martin’s Android Affiliate Mobile Marketing. I own a Droid X and I’ve consulted with Kim Dushinski’s Mobile Marketing Profits affiliate program and the TextMarks affiliate program, both in ShareASale. I’ve followed AdMob and OfferMobi and kept up with Google Alerts on Mobile Marketing. But Michael Martin is the real deal. His inside knowledge of the industry and where it is going is quite impressive.

If any of my readers have heard me talk about mobile marketing, I was wondering if this was the breakout year and so far it hasn’t been. Michael says that the customers need education and they need to ease into mobile marketing through mobile coupons in the next 6-12 months. So next year should be the year of mobile marketing.

Michael’s research and statistics were inspiring and enlightening.

-The only demographic currently showing return on investment is the male category from 24-35. So any affiliates making money right now, that’s your market.
-There were 160 million sms text users in 2008 and an expected 3.1 billion in 2013.
-Also, the best time to target mobile users – 8pm to midnight.
-Mobile marketing for customers is more about finding than searching so it pays to be first with a mobile ready site, according to Martin.

The one take away I learned from Martin is that the third party widget I’m currently using for my WordPress sites to help them be more mobile friendly, isn’t the best solution. I’ll be looking for wptouch as soon as I finish posting this wrapup.

I’m excited to see ASE10 picking up on the new wave of affiliate marketing. I hope to see some new sessions in Vegas at ASW11.
